Flexing for Fitness


Gentle stretching is an essential part of physical fitness -- just as essential as strength training or aerobics. 

Yet most people forget about flexibility, jumping into their fitness routines without so much as touching their toes. 

That's unfortunate, because stretching preserves flexibility and range of muscle movement, and it helps ensure that you won't suffer nasty cramps or pulls during exercise. 

Give yourself time for warm-up and cool-down. Stretch only until you feel a slight pull, not pain. Hold the stretch for 20 to 30 seconds. 

Remember: The key to safe stretching is to move slowly and gently.
